PASAC is proud to offer the state’s only Expressive Arts Therapy Center. This center was created through community fundraising efforts and grants, such as the Kentucky Colonels Grant. In March 2007, the Expressive Arts Therapy Center was opened and we have continued to grow and expand this program. As we’ve adopted the designation as the state appointed Child Advocacy Center for this region, this center has become an even more integral part of our treatment, especially for the young children we see.
The Expressive Arts Therapy Center houses a sand tray room, art room, drama and play rooms, and a yoga/relaxation room in order to provide a variety of expressive therapy techniques for trauma processing. Expressive techniques allow for enhanced examination of one’s belief system about self and others. Because of the way these techniques activate the brain, individuals are more easily able to access unconscious or disturbing material. These techniques are often used in conjunction with cognitive and behavioral modification approaches.
