OCTOBER 4 IS TEN-4 AWARENESS DAY

Do you know the TEN-4 Bruising Rule to identify signs of child abuse? Kids are kids, and sometimes they play in ways that results in minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises. These minor injuries are often found on bony areas of the body like the knees, shins, elbows, and foreheads. However, there are other types of bruises that should be a red flag for possible abuse.

For children 4 years of age or younger, bruising in these areas are cause for concern and need to be reported. Learn more about physical and behavioral indicators that could be signs of child sexual abuse on our website.

To make a report of child abuse or neglect, contact DCBS Centralized Intake at 1-877-597-2331 or your local law enforcement office.

If you are noticing unusual behaviors or symptoms, but aren’t sure what’s causing them, you can contact our 24-Hour Helpline at any time: 1-800-928-7273.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR PURCHASE AREA SURVIVORS

The Lotus Survivors Council plays a key role in furthering the mission of Lotus to expand meaningful access to services through an accessible, culturally relevant and trauma informed approach. Survivors Council members dedicate themselves to advocating and being a voice by educating and raising awareness of Lotus services for survivors of child abuse and sexual violence throughout the community.

Lotus is currently seeking new members to serve on our Survivors Council. Apply online or email [email protected] for more information.

WHY I GIVE: DR. CHRISTINE LINDNER

Dr. Christine Lindner, a history professor at Murray State University, has lived all over the world. From Long Island, to the United Kingdom, to Lebanon, and other communities on the world map, she now calls Murray, Kentucky her home. Out of all the places she has lived, to Dr. Lindner, Murray is special because of its richness as a community. Through the years, Dr. Lindner has intentionally used her platform to amplify social justice causes in collaboration with Murray community members.

“I really like that Lotus prioritizes people who are from the community and also survivors themselves,” says Dr. Lindner. “At Lotus, there is a community coming together, raising each other up.”

SURVIVORS CREATE RESIN SERVING TRAYS AT LOTUS WORKSHOP

Check out these beautiful resin serving trays! Last month, resin artist Emily Suhrheinrich facilitated a restorative workshop for survivors in partnership with Lotus. Participants used epoxy resin to create custom pieces of decorative and functional art. Thank you, Emily, for sharing your expertise with us!

Lotus provides a holistic approach to healing and wellness through therapeutic techniques as well as expressive arts and restorative opportunities for survivors of sexual violence. All services and workshops are provided free of charge. View upcoming restorative workshops for survivors on our events page.
