Statement on Derek Chauvin Verdict

Posted

While today’s decision in the Derek Chauvin trial offers hope that accountability and justice are possible, the structures of racism, oppression, and injustice that led to the murder of George Floyd and countless other Black, Indigenous, and People of Color remain in place. The traumatic impacts of violence created by structural and overt racism and oppression will not be healed through one verdict.
Each of us hold the responsibility to cultivate non-violent communities with freedom for every person to live fully. By keeping racial justice central to our advocacy efforts and invoking our shared values of resilience, empowerment, diversity, equity, and inclusion, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a world free from violence and oppression in all forms.
