To our Lotus community:
Since we began our work in 1984, we have provided a sanctuary of safety, comfort, and healing for survivors, children, and families who have experienced child abuse and sexual violence. When we broke ground on our Sanctuary Project in 2020 with a $3.5 million investment from statewide partners, the opportunities for those we serve to hope, heal, and grow became limitless.
Over the last few weeks, our community came together in support of survivors, children, and families to ask our local leaders to ensure this sanctuary now and for years to come. Nearly 1,500 supporters like you voiced concern with the proposed Huck’s Food and Fuel due to the environmental, health, and safety impacts for those we serve.
Our shared concerns of this proposal have been heard. Today, Martin & Bayley, Inc., the parent company of the proposed Huck’s Food and Fuel, withdrew their petition to build the gas station and convenience store at Alben Barkley Drive and Friendship Road.
It took a community effort to stop this threat. With dedication and help from our neighbors, partners, volunteers, Board of Directors, staff, and advocates like you, we turned this challenge into opportunities for raising awareness, building relationships, and empowering people to use their voice.
The Lotus Sanctuary is a starting point for survivors, children, and families to heal and reclaim their lives. Thank you for helping to ensure safety, comfort, and healing for thousands in our community by saving our sanctuary.
With gratitude,
Lori Wells Brown
Executive Director
